334 glen hobbie

Type 3 variety on 1959 Topps 334 Glen Hobbie can be found on the bottom center of the card.  The variation is a large blue line, approximately 16mm in length, that extends at an angle from just under the “G” in the autograph, through the bottom of the portrait, the green background just to the left of “CHICAGO” and almost to the bottom border.  Often associated with this variation is a small spot of yellow color in the background, under the “G” in the autograph.  From a survey of examples available on eBay, this variation appears on approximately 17% of cards.

105 lee walls

Type 3 variety on 1959 Topps 105 Lee Walls.  Sometimes it’s hard to tell what the normal card is and what the variation is.  In the lower right corner of the green background, there is a flaw which leaves a yellow wedge that extends all the way from the portrait to the bottom border.  From a survey of examples available on eBay, this variation appears on approximately 85% of cards.

For this card, the variation that does not show such a large wedge of yellow (it is instead the background, green) is less common.  From a survey of examples available on eBay, this variation appears on approximately 15% of cards.

61 dick brown

Type 3 variety on 1959 Topps 61 Dick Brown can be found in the right hand border, about three quarters of the way to the bottom.  There is a vertical blue line that extends approximately 22.5mm.  Once the line reaches the bottom border, the line begins to lighten.  I would consider this to be a Type 3 due to its length.  A survey of cards on eBay reveals that this variation is present on approximately 6% of cards.

Type 3 variety on 1959 Topps 61 Dick Brown can be found in the right hand border, about three quarters of the way to the bottom of the card.  It is a very colorful variety.  A survey of cards on eBay reveals that this variation is present on approximately 20% of cards.

Because of the location of this variation, the more off center this card is up and left, the more of the variety that can be seen.

At the top of the variation is a small, thin, 1mm vertical black mark.  Underneath there are long (6 mm) vertical lines of magenta and yellow.  Perpendicular to the long vertical lines are horizontal (1.5 mm) lines in magenta, yellow, black, and blue.

In the lower right hand corner of the background, there is a black ink spot approximately 1mm in diameter on the edge of the portrait, between the “g” in the autograph and the “B” in BRAVES.  There is also a light shadow of black ink directly under the “n” in the autograph.  Additionally, the scratch from the upper left begins again at the edge of the portrait and extends at an angle almost to the right border.
